Meet Dea

Dea Wathen, LPCA, Yoga Teacher

Embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery with me. My path to becoming a therapist was deeply personal, inspiring my counseling style with empathy and understanding. I recognize the bravery it takes to embrace therapy and commit to the process, and I'm here to support you.

Being a neurodivergent person growing up throughout different communities in Eastern, Western and Central Kentucky, I bring a culturally sensitive approach to a variety of lived experiences in our state.

Specializing in addiction, recovery, grief (such as the loss of a loved one, career, or identity), and providing solace to those affected by spiritual and religious trauma, I am dedicated to offering a safe haven for healing and growth. My approach is rooted in compassion and devoid of judgment, fostering a nurturing environment where clients can explore their emotions freely.

In my practice, I blend various therapeutic modalities, including art, movement, and body awareness techniques, alongside Internal Family Systems (IFS) parts work and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These approaches have been refined through my own healing journey, affirming my belief in therapy as a powerful catalyst for transformation.

I also work with couples and incorporate Brainspotting Phase One into my practice, which allows us to address deeper emotional and psychological issues at their core. Additionally, I am signed up for Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) training in December 2024, which will further enhance my ability to support couples in building stronger, more connected relationships.

As a certified Yoga Teacher (with 200-hour training), I integrate mindfulness and somatic practices into therapy sessions, fostering emotional awareness and self-discovery. I approach each client with an open heart and mind, facilitating discussions on spirituality, religion, and assisting in dismantling harmful belief systems.

My ultimate goal is to empower you to navigate your unique journey, cultivating resilience and finding acceptance amidst life's challenges. Together, we can embark on a path towards healing and self discovery.
